Types and Benefits of Metal Film Coating

What is the metal film coating?

A metal film is a solid continuous film obtained by primary coating. It can be applied to the surface of structural components of metal, fabric, plastic, etc. to prevent corrosion from happening. Apart from anti-corrosion function, metal film coatings have many applications such as protection, insulation, decoration and so on. In short, metal films of the right material can make the parts and components much more durable, allowing them to last for far longer.

Types of metal coatings

• Aluminum coatings

For the aluminum metal coatings, hot-dipped aluminum silicon and hot-dipped coating of pure aluminum are available. Both of them offer excellent protection and resistance against corrosion. The aluminum film is ideal for applications involving heat panels, automobiles, shields and more because it has a heat resistance of 1250 degrees Fahrenheit and a heat reflectivity of 900 degrees Fahrenheit. It also has longer lasting protection from atmospheric corrosion, so it is ideal for a number of applications in the automotive, aerospace, medical and optoelectronic industries.

Zinc coatings

Zin coating is also known as the galvanized coating. It is one of the most commonly used as well as popular metal coatings around. Metallic zinc can be used for carbon steel. Designed to control corrosion, the process is achieved by hot-dip galvanizing, which essentially means the metal is immersed into melted zinc to get the desired coating. Zinc is a good deterrent material for oxidation. But if abrasions happen, galvanic action ensures the surface is still protected. This way, coatings can keep the surface around holes as well as edges protected.

Ion Plating. Thermal evaporation is a good method to create a coating. Processes involved in the production of this coating include electroplating and thermal evaporation along with with ion and atom sputtering as well as ion implantation.

Electroless coatings, also known as conversion coatings, refer to coatings generated from conversion processes like the black oxide. This can improve corrosion protection. It starts off with the oxidization process for metals, resulting in a blacking solution that obstructs the formation of rust. This then develops into a micro porous surface.

Benefits of Metal Coatings

The metal surface needs to be pre-cleaned and roughened before spraying. The spraying process is simple, and basically not limited by the size and shape of the equipment and parts. Good metal or alloy coating can be obtained according to the requirements.

With these metal coatings, we can protect our components and parts from corrosion, physical barriers and oxidation. This provides us with durable performance, allowing us to save up on costs for premature replacements, effectively cutting down on manufacturing expenses. With the right coatings, we won’t just get better longer-lasting performance, we get to enjoy cost-savings as well.
